Mexico-USA meetings this week. This week, Vice-President of the United States Kamala Harris will have meetings with Mexican government officials – led by the Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, to discuss issues related to the strengthening of productive chains in both countries and economic aid for Central America. The meeting will be part of an effort to repair the bilateral relationship after the unilateralism on behalf of the previous US administration, according to statements made by Robert Velasco, the Foreign Ministry`s lead official for North America. Both countries are expected to discuss strategies to avoid future crises that could affect supply chains like the pandemic has done – in addition to greater investment in the border`s infrastructure. They will also seek to strengthen trade ties after the USMCA`s signing, along with economic aid plans for Central America`s development, a plan steered towards decreasing the population`s need for migration. Mexico will also be represented in the meetings by the Secretariat of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier; and on the US side, participants will include Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
