Intercam Banco is present at the World Beach Cleanup Day
As part of our commitment as a Socially Responsible Company, on September 22, 2018 we participated at the World Beach Cleanup Day for the second consecutive year, where our Collaborators from 16 branches contributed to combat the deterioration of beaches in 9 states of the Mexican republic.
The event was attended by colleagues and friends of Intercam who – with great joy and enthusiasm – collected approximately 2 tons of waste, made up mostly of plastics and non-biodegradable material, which contributed significantly to reduce the pollution that affects residents, tourists and species of the area.
Part of the fauna that is affected by this problem is the Caguama Turtle, a species in danger of extinction since 2010 that regularly nests on the beaches of the peninsulas of Yucatan and Baja California. In addition, more than 2,000 specimens die in Mexico each year and around 50% of marine turtles consume plastic when they mistake it for food.
In total, this year we cleaned 25 kilometers of beaches (250% more than in 2017), in the different coasts where our branches have presence: Acapulco, Los Cabos, San Jose, Melaque, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa, Mazatlan, Puerto Peñasco, Ensenada, Manzanillo, Sayulita, Veracruz and La Paz.
